Charo Brings Her Magic To The Wolf Den!

María Rosario Pilar Martínez Molina Baeza is one of the top flamenco and classical guitar players in the world. We all know Maria as Charo! Charo first came on my radar in the 2nd half of the Sixties. Most likely on The Tonight Show or The Merv Griffin Show at first, then all over the place from Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In to Hollywood Squares to Sammy And Company and all points in between. Beautiful, charming, energetic, funny, unforgettable. That was and is Charo!

I cannot emphasize enough that Charo is anything but a relic of the 60s - 70s. She's 100% now! She's rocked RuPaul's Drag Race and Dancing With The Stars and is an icon of the LGBTQ community. She also rules what Steve Hackett calls the 10-finger orchestra - the classical guitar. Charo is an award-winning flamenco guitarist of the highest order. She is a former student of the grand master; the legend - Andres Segovia. I asked her what the single greatest lesson she learned from Segovia was : Discipline she replied. The proof is in her playing. Fierce, passionate, emotional. Her guitar mastery makes jaws drop.



As they used to say on TV : But wait! There's more! In addition to her stellar guitar playing, a Charo concert is packed with dance, salsa, vocal pieces, and humor (Family-friendly in case you were wondering!). Yes, glittery elaborate costumes as well. It wouldn't be Charo otherwise. One of the strongest impressions I got talking to Charo beyond her love of music is her love and joy toward her audience. She lives and breathes it!



Last week we chatted about her upcoming shows. March 1st. Brand new show. Completely brand new show. A lot of beautiful music. Salsa. Guitar. The tour starts at the Wolf Den. I love to play the Wolf Den. It's so beautiful. The audience is exactly, when I play the guitar, like if I was in Carnegie Hall. A very beautiful, respectful audience. Very happy. When I sit down on the stool and I say I'm going to play my guitar it is an unbelievable feeling. I really love the Wolf Den. I'm so connected with Mohegan Sun. Very beautiful people. Very beautiful casino / hotel. You can feel the best energy.
